David Chard, Ph.D. - LiteracyDr. David Chard is an Associate Professor at the University of Oregon, College of Education where he serves as Associate Dean for Curriculum and Academic Programs and Major Director of Special Education. Dr. Chard is a principal investigator on three federal research projects on reading, reading comprehension instruction and mathematics. He also serves as a Co-Principal Investigator to a federally funded center on school-wide models of preventing reading difficulties. Dr. Chard has published extensively on instructional interventions and modifications in reading, mathematics, and expressive writing. He has consulted and presented for schools, school districts and state departments nationally and internationally on effective instructional strategies for improving schools for all children. He is a member of the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities and a Past President for the Division for Research at the Council for Exceptional Children. He is the author of numerous instructional programs on reading, language arts, and mathematics spanning K-12 education and has been a classroom teacher in the U.S. and in the U. S. Peace Corps in southern Africa. |

Malachy Bishop, Ph.D., CRC - Post-Secondary ServicesMalachy Bishop, Ph.D., CRC has worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Educator for over 12 years. He completed his doctoral study in Rehabilitation Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He minored in Educational Psychology and completed predoctoral clinical internships in neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Bishop conducts research primarily in the areas of quality of life, adaptation to disability, and the psychological and social aspects of living with neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. He has authored over 30 articles in Rehabilitation Counseling journals, several book chapters, and an edited book, and presented research at over 30 regional, state, and national conferences. Dr. Bishop is currently conducting research on the ways in which people adapt to and cope with the impact of chronic illness on their lives. |

Dixie Jordan - Parents and FamiliesDixie Jordan is the parent of an adult son with ADHD, depression and learning disabilities. She has initiated numerous programs on behalf of children with disabilities, including a Statewide American Indian Project and a Project for Parents of Children with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders at PACER Center in Minneapolis. She is the Director of the Families and Advocates Partnership for Education (FAPE Project) at PACER, and author of numerous books, articles and training curricula related to special education law, services, and outreach to diverse families. Dixie is a highly sought speaker with a candid and forthright style that is both engaging and thought provoking. |

George Sugai, Ph.D. - Positive Behavior SupportsGeorge Sugai is the Neag Endowed Professor in Special Education in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut with expertise in behavior analysis, classroom and behavior management, school-wide discipline, function-based behavior support, positive behavior supports, and educating students with emotional and behavioral disorders. He has been a teacher in the public schools, treatment director in a residential program, and program administrator. Dr. Sugai conducts applied school and classroom research and works with schools to translate research into practice. He is currently co-director of the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at the University of Connecticut and University of Oregon. |
