Special Education Degrees

Special Education with Mild/Moderate Emphasis: Prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with high incidence disabilities such as learning disabilities, behavior and emotional disorders, mild mental retardation, and communication disorders.

Special Education with Severe Emphasis: Prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with low incidence intellectual and physical disabilities such as severe mental retardation, autism, traumatic and acquired brain injury, and multiple disabilities.

Special Education with Early Childhood Emphasis: Prepares teachers to work with children from birth through five years of age with mild to severe disabilities.

Dual Degrees

Special Education with Mild/Moderate Emphasis and Special Education with Early Childhood Emphasis: Prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with high incidence disabilities such as learning disabilities, behavior and emotional disorders, mild mental retardation and communication disorders. Also prepares teachers to work with children from birth through five years of age with mild to severe disabilities.

Special Education with Severe Emphasis and Special Education with Early Childhood Emphasis: Prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with low incidence intellectual and physical disabilities such as severe mental retardation, autism, traumatic and acquired brain injury, and multiple disabilities. Also prepares teachers to work in a regular elementary school classroom first through sixth grade.

Special Education with Severe Emphasis and Elementary Education: Prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with low incidence intellectual and physical disabilities such as severe mental retardation, autism, traumatic and acquired brain injury, and multiple disabilities. Also prepares teachers to work in a regular elementary school classroom first through sixth grade.

Special Education with Early Childhood Emphasis and Early Childhood Elementary Education: Prepares teachers to work with children from birth through five years of age with mild to severe disabilities. Also prepares teachers to work in a regular elementary school classroom kindergarten through third grade.

Special Education with Mild/Moderate Emphasis and Secondary Education: Prepares teachers to work with students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with high incidence disabilities such as learning disabilities, behavior and emotional disorders, mild mental retardation and communication disorders. Also prepares teachers to teach a content area in a regular secondary education classroom (seventh through twelve grades).
